Reverend Vernon grew up in Pretoria South Africa, and has recently moved to Nanaimo with his partner Dolph to serve as Rector of St. Paul’s.
He matriculated at Pretoria Boys’ High School in 1990. His Tertiary qualifications include a Diploma in Theology from the College of the Transfiguration, BA Theology from the University of Pretoria and an Honours Bachelor of Theology (Practical Theology) from the University of South Africa.
Reverend Vernon was made Deacon in 2006 and ordained priest in 2008. In the first two years of his ministry, being licenced under the Parish of Corpus Christi (Garsfontein), assisted in planting a new parish in Equestria. He was then made Rector of Trinity Church in Lynnwood, serving in that capacity for 9 years. Vernon served as a Canon of the Cathedral of St Alban the Martyr in the Diocese of Pretoria. He also advised the Diocesan Bishop on matters pertaining to Gender and Human Sexuality. He has served as a board member of Out LGBTI Well-Being till 2020.
Reverend Vernon is particularly passionate about the Church being an inclusive and affirming place where people can be fed and affirmed as God’s beloved regardless of who they are or where their lives have taken them.
