On Sunday, July 13, we join churches around the world in observing Sea Sunday, traditionally marked on the second Sunday of July each year. It is a time to pray for and support the millions of people who live and work at sea many of whom face long separations from family, isolation, and difficult working conditions. As Anglicans, we are part of a global ministry through The Mission to Seafarers, founded in 1856 by Rev. John Ashley, who began ministering to crews in the Bristol Channel. Today the Mission serves in over 200 ports worldwide, offering spiritual and practical care to seafarers of all nationalities and faiths.

While there is no local branch in Nanaimo, we at St. Paul’s are beginning to explore how, as a church in the Harbour City, we might offer friendship and support to the maritime community here.
